First Orthodontic Visit

What to expect---

Visiting a new doctor's office for the first time can be a little intimidating, mostly because you don't know what to expect. Our younger patients are sometimes nervous--again, because of fear of the unknown.

If you were referred to Grider Orthodontics by a friend, then you already know that there is nothing intimidating about our office. But if you have found us on your own, then read on--and be sure to check out the "Meet Dr. Grider" and "Virtual Office Tour" pages.

To make your initial consultation as informative and efficient as possible, we ask that you "help us help you" by preparing in advance:

  1. Please complete both sides of the patient information/health history form we mailed, and bring it with you.
  2. If you have orthodontic benefits from your dental insurance, please provide that information in advance of the initial consultation so we can confirm benefits for you. If you are not comfortable with providing the necessary information in advance, that's okay. Simply confirm your benefits with your insurer and bring that information along with your insurance card.
  3. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your new patient appointment.

You will be greeted and given a brief office tour on your way to the consultation area. If you do not already have a panoramic x-ray from your dentist, we may need to take one to provide a complete evaluation. Don't worry, it's free of charge.

During the consultation Dr. Grider will personally provide a thorough evaluation of your teeth and bite, and discuss your treatment options. Before you leave, you will be provided with the following information:

  1. An understanding of the basic orthodontic problems.
  2. What we can do to improve the position and function of the teeth.
  3. What that treatment will involve (braces, clear aligners, other types of appliances, etc.)
  4. Approximate length of treatment (often ranging from 18-26 months).
  5. Treatment fee including financing options.

At the end of your consultation you are certainly welcome to schedule the next appointment, which would be for full orthodontic records. These records are used to confirm the diagnosis and treatment plan.

At Grider Orthodontics you will NEVER be pressured to start treatment. You should be comfortable with your decision, and not feel like you were obligated to continue.

We believe our patients come to our office because they feel this is absolutely the best place to receive their orthodontic care. We hope that you will feel the same way.
